FullCodePress thought it might be interesting to interview the project manager of each team. And to give things a twist, Mike Brown, from New Zealand, interviewed the Australian team PM, Marla Mitelman, and Russ Weakley, from Australia, interviewed Thomas Scovell from the New Zealand team, the Code Blacks. Here’s the first interview, with Marla Mitelman.

  1. Mike: What are you most looking forward to about the competition?
Marla: Staying up past my bed time.
  2. Mike: How are you all going to stay awake for the 24 hours?
Marla: We’re not - we can beat the Kiwi’s in our sleep.
  3. Mike: What’s your team’s secret weapon?
    Marla: We cheat.
  4. Mike: What, if any, are the strengths of the Australian team?
Marla: We can all bench press double our body weight … Which helps in web development challenges like these.
  5. Mike: I know you’ve been talking tactics as a team. What are going to be the drugs of choice?
Marla: Hard Work, Co-Operation, and Methamphetamines.
  6. Mike: How are you going to respond to the challenge of the Code Blacks’ haka?
Marla: Depends on whether it’s performed with or without their handbags …..
  7. Mike: Project management - does the carrot or the stick work best?
Marla: I find that a carrot shaped stick does the job nicely!
  8. Mike: Designers. We all know they’re precious. How are you going to tell your designer that, no, it really doesn’t matter where the pixels go?
Marla: Oh but it does, it does!! I guess this means we’ve got the design advantage over you guys? ;)
  9. Mike: Your programmer tells you it’ll take 3 hours to code something up. How long will it really take?
Marla: Once we’ve installed the Red Bull drip in his arm, about half that time! This is also when the carrot shaped stick comes in handy.
  10. Mike: And the final question! How will you explain to an expectant Australian nation that you’ve come runner-up in contest of two?
Marla: Being we’re on our home turf we have a competitive advantage over you guys so we should be asking you that question ;)
