The Grampians disAbility Advocacy Association provides advocacy support for people with a disability and their families or carers across the Grampians region of Victoria. Advocacy involves seeking a solution with, and on behalf of, people with a disability so that they can gain the services they need. It is also about protecting the rights of people with a disability and working towards a society that is inclusive and welcoming of different abilities.
Debbie Verdon, the Co-ordinator of the Grampians disAbility Advocacy Association, is the client representative at FullCodePress.

Debbie Verdon
- FCP: How has the web opened up new possibilities for people with disabilities?
- Debbie: It has opened up a whole new world to many people with disabilities. People with physical impairments are often homebound and the web has become a new community for them.
- FCP: Why do you think a website will be particularly useful to the Grampians Disability Advocacy Association?
- Debbie: In our case, we service enormous region about 48,000 square kilometres and 200,000 people. It is impossible to get around such a large area and have personal contact with all the people we would like to engage with. Through the website we are hoping it will be easy of people to locate us and be encouraged to become members.
- FCP: Since your clients are mainly people with disabilities, do you think you will have any special requirements for your site?
- Debbie: Yes, one of the obvious requirements is to be able to have text in large fonts for the sight impaired. There are also some who have no sight so it has to work with screen readers as well and the site must work for people who can’t use a mouse.
- FCP: What are your expectations for the next 24 hours?
- Debbie: What I expect to happen is to meet with the team and communicate our specific needs and learn a lot from them about what is available. Then I expect an absolute flurry of excitement and energy ending up with the production of a wonderful website.
The CodeBlacks will be working with Debbie over the next 24 hours to build the site for the Grampians disAbility Advocacy Association.
