Why try and compete in FullCodePress?

A few days ago, Seth Godin wrote a post called Intentionally building communities (More hallway!). Although he wasn’t writing about FullCodePress, a couple of passages resonated with me. He wrote:

The esprit de corps created by a bunch of strangers under time pressure in a public competition would last for decades.

and

Working side by side doing something that matters under adverse conditions… that’s what we need.

Mark Rickerby, who was the programmer in the New Zealand team at the last FullCodePress, also twittered:

I can attest to FullCodePress being one of the scariest, and most fun and rewarding design experiences of my life. So DO IT.

Being part of FullCodePress is a unique opportunity. You’re thrown together with people you probably don’t know, with the task of building something usable and beautiful for a worth non-profit organisation. All while the clock is ticking! It’s something that takes you out of your usual working environment and comfort zone, but the rewards of doing that are invaluable.

You’ll learn stuff about yourself, about how you work with others and about just what’s possible in 24 hours. You’ll also have a chance to showcase your skills before a world-wide audience.

We’re not looking for the “rock stars” of the web world and we’re not looking for creative geniuses. There’s no time for ego or drama when you’ve only got 24 hrs. We are looking for good, solid developers, designers, writers and managers. Most importantly, we want people who work together well and get things done.

Consider applying for the NZ and Australian teams. It’s a wonderful experience to take part in FullCodePress. Not to mention a free trip to Sydney!
