FCP Partner Interview – CeBIT’s Gilad Greenbaum
27 April 2009 | Russ Weakley | 3 Comments
Gilad Greenbaum is the chief technologist at CeBIT Australia. Through geeky life and five years experience in IT he worked on hardware, software and digital marketing. But his heart and passion stays with the Web and Solar Engineering. Gilad holds an electrical engineering degree and studied in Ben Gurion University (Israel) and UNSW.
- Russ:
- Can you tell us a little bit about CeBIT Australia this year and what is in store? Any cool gadgets or techno-toys this year?
- Gilad:
- Like every year, CeBIT Australia 2009 is focused around business technology solutions. 2009 looks like the year of Cloud Computing and SaaS, which seems to be moving to the mainstream at last. More visible trend includes Mobility, you will sure expect to see some cool Mobile gadgets in the show this year. In addition, there is an area called Webciety – with Australia’s top web startups.
- Russ:
- We’ve heard rumors about a secret code that grants people free entry to the CeBIT exhihition. Is this true, and if so, how do we score such a code? Do we have to offer up one of our internal organs, or our first-born? We need to know!
- Gilad:
- Well, if you really insist, it is fcpcebit09. But keep it to yourself, hey.
- Russ:
- What is WebForward and who is the event aimed at? Is it running parallel to CeBIT Australia?
- Gilad:
- WebForward is a multi stream web-centric conference, runs for two days during CeBIT Australia. It is designed for those who appreciate the web as a business tool (beside the infinite fun it generates; can anyone imagine how our life would look like without the web?). From Search to e-Commerce to Web and Mobile apps to twitter – it is all there. I can’t wait for this event. While I have managed the content for other conferences at CeBIT Australia, I actually talk at WebForward – on Magento e-Commerce, an open source product that is taking over the e-Commerce world. I am privileged enough to know personally Roy Rubin, the CEO and Founder of Varien, who created Magneto, and I will deliver some interesting information in this presentation.
- Russ:
- We’ve heard rumors that you are obsessed with web-based applications. Why this obsession? Do you think that web-based applications will eventually rule the world?
- Gilad:
- I think the shift for a user centric web is a serious change in paradigm. We saw that in Web 2.0 the took over our web experience, and it’s even clearer with iPhone and the mobility revolution. I believe that most of businesses have less of desired understanding of this fast moving trend. Like any web user, I am amazed with the flexibility web & mobile apps introduced to our online life.
- Russ:
- What are you expecting from the FullCodePress event – apart from Australia giving the CodeBlacks a sound beating!
- Gilad:
- I expect FullCodePress to be fun, first and foremost. It is an important event that promotes some precious values to any web professional and web organisations, hence directly assists the business community to get better results when building web strategy. As such, there is a very good match between CeBIT value’s to FCP.

umm, the promotional code quoted in the interview is not correct, as evidenced bu the one that works at the side of the page.
