The Codaroos (Team Aussie) previewed

19 May 2010 | admin | 1 Comments

Just who is this Australian team? Do they have what it takes to handle the changed match conditions of FullCodePress 2010? We ask a regular from the Australian scene to give us the lowdown on these hardened warriors from the Big Island.

FCP: Looks like the Australian Selection Board has fielded a very strong team this year. Can the new Project Manager handle this many stars in one team?

Anonymous Australian: Oh, absolutely! Kylie Liggins has a wealth of experience at the national and international levels. Her playing time in Europe smoothed out her form. In the last year, she’s brought her ‘A’ game every time and brought home some very tight turnarounds. She’ll take charge of the team in no time and whip them into shape. Plus, she has a key link into the team members as the HTML/CSS marker-upper is from her regular league team.

FCP: Schilling, right? He seems to have gone from strength to strength lately?

Anonymous Australian: He sure has! I remember Adam Schilling when he was playing regionals out in South Australia. In a surprise move at the time, he upped sticks and moved across to Melbourne. Then he really stepped up his game. Self-made man, this one. He just trains and trains. As a result he has a broad range of skills and he’s a real go-to guy when the pressure is on.

FCP: But Liggins and Schilling aren’t the only team members who’ve played together in the past?

Anonymous Australian: No, Schilling also played with Lachlan Donald and James Mansfield in a strong Melbourne team. And Donald leads it. He’s got all the plays, all the tricks. Another old hand, he’s been pushing the boundaries of rough and tumble play for a long time. You can expect that the PM will be able to leave the technical aspects of the competition in his capable hands and concentrate on top notch delivery.

FCP: So, tell us about Mansfield, he’s been in the game a long time, I hear.

Anonymous Australian: For sure. His match history goes back at least 10 years. And when I look back over some of those matches from say 2001, 2003, well… I’m just blown away. I expect big things from Mansfield in this match. And with the support of familiar team mates, I think he can deliver against all comers.

FCP: Sounds like Australia really have the back-end of the field covered, but let’s get down to the nitty gritty. Can Diamond make the content sparkle?

Anonymous Australian: There’s no doubt in my mind. Her depth of experience in the international game is second to none. She’s played for top competitive government teams, but still finds time for community and business teams. Some might think she spreads herself thin, but I think she’s got the capability to cover all bases. Matched up against McGrane and Green, she’ll still find the reach to press the offensive.

FCP: And Wark. What does this Designer bring to the table?

Anonymous Australian: Well, Bjarni Wark is the real dark horse of this competition, I’d say. He’s been in a free agent for a long time now and Liggins will have to make sure she brings him into the fold quickly. On the other hand, that freedom has given him a very light deft handle on the game. He brings a subtlety and, I’ll go so far as to say – a beauty, unmatched in your standard league games. Of course, he’ll need it to deliver against Team USA and the Code Blacks! Watching his performance in this competition will be a real pleasure.

FCP: That brings us to the big question: will Team USA change everything?

Anonymous Australian: Undoubtedly, the new entrant this year has shaken things up. The whole competition is in turmoil. Nobody expected this! Team USA are good, that’s clear. But I think the Australians can handle it. They’re a strong team of experienced talented individuals, and many of them have played together before. I think that bonding will be key to how their game play shapes up on the day.

FCP: And the Code Blacks? Do the Australians have an answer ready for last year’s loss to NZ?

Anonymous Australian: As much as Team USA is going to be a significant factor in this year’s match, you can’t beat history and tradition for entrenching team rivalries. The Australians will be gunning for the Code Blacks with all their might in 2010. Sure, playing away will make a difference, but Liggins knows that and I’m certain she’ll keep the team on their toes, focused and aimed for the prize. The Australians have all the skills and determination necessary to take it home in our first three country FullCodePress. Game day will be a revelation, I’m sure. Not just for the teams, but for all the fans out there in Internetland.
