- Thanks for agreeing to be interviewed Luiza.
Could you tell us a little bit about your organization and what they do?
Well our organization is called the Lions Hearing Dogs. We train dogs for the deaf and hearing-impaired people. So our dogs are trained to locate sounds within the home such as a door knock, door bell, telephone, oven timer, baby cry. And the dogs will actually locate the sound and let their owner know by touching them and taking them to the sound. And they’ve got the same access rights as guide dogs do so they can go into any public area.
- Fantastic, and how long have you been running?
About 1982. We are the only certified organization in Australia to train hearing dogs. And although we train them in Adelaide, our dogs go Australia-wide. So we’ve got about 477 dogs out at the moment.
- Wow, fantastic. And you’ve got a website at the moment?
Yes
- What are you expecting out of this process? What sort of things do you think you will have at the moment by the end of it?
At the end of it we will have a website that’s really accessible for potential clients, current clients and the general public. I think it’s going to be informative and will show people what we actually do and what we are about.
- And you’re working pretty closely with the team, how are you finding that?
Good, it’s been fun at the moment, really enjoying it. They are working really well so I’m quite pleased.
