- We’re here with John, from Team USA, thank you for giving us a few minutes of your time.
- Thanks.
- We’re getting to that crucial time of night, where, well you guys are jet-lagged anyway, you probably wanted to be asleep hours ago. Could you tell us a little bit about the platform you selected for your website?
- WordPress of course. I’m supporting the WordPress mantra right here.
- “Code is poetry.”
- Of course it’s the largest open source publishing platform out there and I love it and I’ve used it for many years and I work for Automatic so I have to support the team.
- Cool, and do you think if you didn’t have such an investment in WordPress, do you think you would still have recommend that as a platform, just based on the needs of the client?
- Oh yeah, absolutely. I mean, I’ve used it for many years in the past and it’s definitely easy to use, easiest for the client to use, and there are a lot of other WordPress developers out there, so it makes a lot of sense for the client to have WordPress. So if we’re not around there are a lot of people there who can help them with the site, it will be around for many years to come, so it makes a lot of sense.
- And you’re using the latest version, is that right?
- Yeah.
- And it’s just been released?
- Yesterday.
- Wow.
- The team worked hard around the clock for us to make sure we could get it out, like 3.0 for Team USA, we need to get it out, so they did. Thanks to the core contributors who are awesome.
- Cool. And how do you think it’s progressing, just in terms of, you know, are you sort of where you thought you’d be at this stage of the event?
- Of course everyone I think wants to be further along and would like to have had more time. But we’re making a lot of progress, I think everyone is really moving quickly in their area. There’s a lot still to be done but I think it’s going well.
- And what’s been the hardest part? What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced?
- The biggest challenge technically is that they’re looking for a calendar of events, it’s their main feature, but theirs is different because they have a list of daily activities. A lot of people haven’t that many, maybe a few a month that the organisation has, and this is truly an activities calendar, it has to be integrated everywhere, to show upcoming events, that’s the most time- consuming. But you know, WordPress is the best publishing platform, it’s easy, so all the other pieces are falling into place.
- Fantastic. Thank very much for your time John, good luck.
- Thank you.
