Rebranding with Jason Santa Maria

Jason Santa Maria talks us through rebranding their client.
So this is the old logo that they had supplied us with, which is doing a tremendous amount of lifting, visually. There’s an abbreviation for the name at the top, which wasn’t entirely clear, but most people call it the Victoria House anyway. And it’s supposed to show the path of someone who would come to the Victoria House, and then slowly go through some stages to get out, as well as kind of this global icon signifying that they’re bigger than just the one location, but this is not only doing too much — it’s not very clear. It needed, obviously, better type. All around, there were a few problems here.
So we decided to help them simplify it into just being Victoria House, with the Timaru Mental Health Support Trust underneath as kind of a byline, which is a little bit more clear for what they do. And these are just very, very, very rough treatments. I wanted to play around with some type to see where we could go with the logo. Something really simple and refined, but not too stuffy for an identity. And keeping that V that they like from the original logo, but modernizing it a little bit and putting a little bit of a human element to it. So it’s kind of like a successful person with their arms up.
I dunno, this is something that’s kind of serviceable for the moment, that we can use as a placeholder at the moment, and hopefully we’ll have time to make it a little bit better.

What a great example of a perfect rebranding. The new icon is really good.
