Dressed to KILL, grrrr

First impressions last. Or so they say. Judging by the ‘code blacks’ attire I’d say they are all in for psychological intimidation, a visually united front. Good for them yunno.

It’s team NZ full steam ahead

News just in: team NZ have finished their initial briefing with The Grampians Advocacy Centre. The Australians are lagging behind, or still gathering vital information from The Ripple Effect. Maybe it’s part of their plan to not rush this process. Afterall, the more they know about their client’s needs, the better the website will serve them. But, can they afford the time? It’s a delicate trade-off.

Asleep on the job! Already?

I know web talk can get a little jargon-laden at time, and the tendency for the non-tech inclined amongst us to nod off every now and then but poor Emily from The Ripple Effect (shown below in the red cardigan) has already been snapped in snooze mode. Tut tut! Time to lift your game girlfriend ;)

Excitin’!

I’ve gotta say, this is extremely exciting stuff. I’m on my first coffee for the day, doing the rounds to gather information for you dear reader. Both teams are all systems go!

There’s a dynamic, charismatic energy coming from the Australian Team, with their fluid, functional working style. The team are focused, easing their way into this competition with user profiles, early design concepts to suit their audience, developers confidently working on the backend, information architecture already sketched out, lots of conversations taking place. Every one is relaxed and happy at this stage but you and I know it’s very early in competition. The question on everyone’s mind is, ‘can they sustain it?’ Well, there is a great heap of chocolate, lollies and T2 tea to sustain a sugar high at least.

Australia’s secret weapon!

Welcome to the geek den

Just to recap the premise of FullCodePress, the idea is to gather together two teams to build two websites, for two non-profit organisations. The catch? There’s only 24hours to acheive this mammoth feat.

We’re off to a great start on this sunny Sydney morning. The teams have gathered, volunteers are slowly rolling in and the introductions went well. Russ and Roger are about to announce the organisations so I’ll hold off on discussing that for now but I can say that I am very pleased with their choice of organisations, feeling warm and fuzzy about it all right now.

I’m currently embedded in the geek den, for want of a better word. Kym and Fiona, our lovely web hosts are sitting beside me, doing a bang up job of getting the server environment just right for both teams. It’s an interesting experiment because we have no idea what platforms/tools the teams are going to choose to get the job done. Will they need a drupal content management system or wordpress? We have photographers roaming who will be uploading to flickr, videographers for youtube and I’ll be here for the next 24hrs blogging primarily for the Australian team and attempting to capture the invigorating highs and lows, the joys and triumphs, not to mention the sleep deprivation inspired madness. Time is ticking away…let the games begin!
